Sturgis rally tally shows fewer drug, DUI arrests; injury accidents up
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
STURGIS, S.D. — Figures from the South Dakota Highway Patrol show drug and drunken driving arrests are down at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this year. But the number of injury accidents increased.
Troopers say that there were 235 drunken driving arrests as of Sunday, compared with 290 last year at the same time. Felony drug arrests dropped from 46 to 43, and misdemeanor drug arrests fell from 183 to 149.
The patrol says 4,234 total warnings were issued. Last year, the total was 4,598.
Eighty injury accidents and four fatalities were listed this year. Last year, 73 injury accidents were reported and nine fatalities.
Owned by Michael Ballard and featured on Tru TV, the Full Throttle Saloon is the place to be the next time you are going to the bike rally in Sturgis South Dakota. There are many different things that sets the Full Throttle apart from all the rest. One of theme is the Flaunt Girls, seven talented women headed up by Mike’s own girlfriend, Fanny Shakesalot, (not her real name.) This is a troupe that features spicy burlesque, and has appeared at numerous biker rallies across the country, but calls this location their home.
There is so much to see and do here. Getting in is totally free, and you can see shows and concerts with no cover charge. There are tons of vendors, loads of beer and hard alcohol, and some of the sexiest women on the planet. There are plenty of concerts, and other activities. You can try riding the mechanical bull, enjoy a slingshot ride, and even try blowing the tires off your bike in the burnout areas. This year you can go on the Pappy Hoel Ride, a motorcycle ride paying tribute to Pappy Hoel, who really started the motorcycle rally here back in 1938.
If you are planning your trip here, then consider staying in one of the Full Throttle’s own comfortable cabins, where you don’t even have to drive anywhere to see all the events. Book well in advance.
