Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2009 DOT Counts
Rally traffic was down again this year according to state counts.
The traffic count at this year’s Sturgis motorcycle rally was the lowest in 13 years.
The state Transportation Department uses automatic counters to measure vehicle traffic each year.
It says 394,009 vehicles entered Sturgis at eight locations during the weeklong rally this year. That’s down 2.8 percent from last year and the lowest count since 386,490 vehicles in 1996.
The DOT has been using traffic counters since 1990 to gauge rally attendance. The highest number was 605,140 vehicles in 2003.

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally otherwise known as The Black Hills Motor Classic Rally and Races, comes in the first week of August every year. It is the event of the year here in Sturgis South Dakota USA!
It is loved by many and dreaded by some.
